My child is a non profit organization for reporting, searching, sighting and rescuing lost children using technology and rescue networks
Project Description: Every parent's nightmare is the fear of losing their children to abduction, kidnapping or human trafficking someday. Child trafficking is a mainstream crime in South Asia, particularly in India. In India, various estimates about missing children exist- some estimate it is 40,000 per year and others report it is 96,000 per year. Parents have too few tools in their hands and they mostly have to fight incompetence and corruption in the police departments and government bureaus with lesser chance of recovering their loved ones (unless they are able to spend a fortune). There are a handful of good NGOs across the country who fight against human trafficking and child rescue. However they work in isolation and are technologically backward and most of the lost children have no hope unless they are found within first week.
Mychild wishes to create an online presence (Web, Mobile) to connect with existing network of NGOs and facilitate the parents and users to get involved in their community to develop their own network of friends and relatives. It aims to become the platform for NGOs, police, government agencies, users to colloborate during search expeditions. It plans to spread awareness through parent-child relation campaigns and also partner with schools and local clubs to urge parents to enroll as users in MyChild, so that they can learn about new technology for tracking children and safegaurding tips from real life stories and be on alert. MyChild will also allow the users, in the vicinity of the lost-location, to act as volunteers and be part of the search expedition teams on day one.
The success of the project depends on successfully partnering with child rescue and anti-human trafficking NGOs and growing the user based volunteers. How seemlessly our process integrates with existing police and government circles to leverage their expertise is to be seen.
We have identified three important tasks for MyChild:
1. Parents or any relative/volunteer can raise alert about missing children - alert gets escalated to various support groups.
2. Users can report a spotting based on alerts about missing children (or even notify about children who seems to be lost).
3. Give support to rescued children by informing the police, locating their parents/relatives or finding a permanent home (adoption, orphanage).
